Default Winter 16/17

Well we have had some great frosts and settled weather for the first few days of Winter. It looks like we will endure a week of milder Southwesterlies until about 16th / 17th when some more settled , blocked , anticyclonic weather may return. It looks like high pressure might sit right over the UK for Christmas week ( which is better than the Atlantic storms of 2015 ! )
What we really need is a bit of amplification and a high forming in the Scandinavian region as a result ( but that might have to wait for now ) ?
Enjoy the festive build up.

Looks like a classic Omega blocking pattern to me, if I am reading the chart correctly.

Jeremy?

Some decent charts beginning to show up now on a regular basis on both GFS and ECM models for around 7th Jan ( but i wouldnt rule out some snow on 1st / 2nd either from an earlier Northerly too )

Good to hear from you Kris ( and i particularly enjoyed your "Snowking" post on netweather about an hour ago. ) Let's hope that the Easterly scenario gathers weight and credence over the next few days of modelling.
